Working with Change Instead of Against It
Love it or hate it, change is an inevitable part of life. No matter how hard we work to shape our lives into something we love, as soon as we reach a place of stability, things begin to shift again.
This is because the very essence of life is growth and evolution. A new car eventually shows signs of wear and tear, book pages yellow over time, and photos fade. Technology becomes outdated. We look at pictures of ourselves from just a year ago and notice the difference.
We tend to accept change in nature with much greater ease. We know that an acorn grows into an oak tree, the seeds we plant today will grow and flourish, flowers need to be pruned, and all plants eventually wither. We don’t question this—it simply is. In fact, if something in nature didn’t change, we’d find it unnatural. Think Dorian Gray.
So why do we resist change in our own lives? Why does it evoke so much fear when we know it is a natural part of existence? One reason may be that our brains instinctively look to the future with apprehension. We fear losing people, our jobs, our health, or our ability to cope.
But what if we knew that tomorrow would bring positive change? We wouldn’t dread it—we’d welcome it with open arms.
What if we shifted our perspective on change? Instead of seeing it as decay, loss, or uncertainty, what if we viewed it through a lens of growth, opportunity, and abundance? Then, change could become something exciting, something we look forward to. After all, isn’t that what we’re all striving for—change that brings us more happiness, health, and fulfillment?
Let’s align the way we see change with the future we hope to create. When we do, we’ll begin to feel more excited about what’s ahead and less fearful of the unknown. And that’s when we truly start to move forward.
